WESCLIN HIGH SCHOOL

COMMUNITY – The community is basically rural. It is composed of 55 square miles and contains three small towns within this area. New Baden and Trenton are towns of about 2500 in population. New Memphis has a population of a few hundred people.
SCHOOL – Wesclin High School is a four-year comprehensive high school with an enrollment of 388 in the 2018-19 school year. The class of 2019 is 106. Our school code is 144-160.
ACCREDITATION – Wesclin High School is accredited by the Illinois State Board of Education.
CALENDAR – Two 18 week semesters; eight period day; all classes meet 5 days per week. All students are required to take five academic classes and PE per day.

GRADE POINT AVERAGE -- (A non-weighted GPA is calculated first. Then a bonus is added to the semester GPA and the accumulated GPA. The semester GPA bonus is calculated by multiplying the number of weighted classes by 1/7. The cumulative GPA bonus is calculated by multiplying the total number of weighted classes taken and the constant for the number of completed semesters as shown below.
One semester = 1/7 = .143
Two semesters = 1/14 = .071
Three semesters = 1/21 = .048
Four semesters = 1/28 = .036
Five semesters = 1/35 = .029
Six semesters = 1/42 = .024
Seven semesters = 1/49 = .02
Eight semesters = 1/56= .018
RANK – All academic courses are computed in the class rank which is determined by the weighted grade point average.
