Wesclin Students go to Future Music Educators of America

On Wednesday, January 23rd, senior band members, Noah Siegfried and Mia Gonzalez, traveled to Peoria, Illinois to not only be students, but to also learn to be music teachers. A few months ago, these students sent in a video answering basic questions about themselves and their plans for the future. Out of the entire state, only fifty-five students who are interested in becoming music teachers are selected to go to a program called Future Music Educators of America. It is a big accomplishment for Wesclin to have two students chosen for this selective program, especially since this is Mia’s second time accepting the honor. At this event, the students get to play the role of the teacher for a few days. They attended seminars and workshops with many music teachers within the state. Noah and Mia learned what being a band director is all about from professionals who experience it daily. Noah Siegfried said, “Overall, it was a great experience and one I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.”
