PE Class Rules/Expectations

Wesclin Physical Education Class

 

Course Description (9th-12th grade, full year, and ¼ credit)

-This course is designed to improve the fitness of students as they develop skills needed to execute many individual and team sports, along with developing the mental aspect of those activities and how to implement them into a healthy lifestyle.  Students will also learn the importance of exercise and stretching, while working towards a healthy and fit body.

 

Rules/Expectations

  1. Students are expected to be in the gym when the class bell rings.  Attendance will be taken and then you will have 4 minutes to get dressed.  Stay in Locker Room until everyone is dressed and you will be released by the supervising teacher to go to the gym.  
  2. Treat equipment and facilities with respect.
  3. Dress and participate everyday.
  4. Keep your hands, feet and other objects to yourself.  Horseplay leads to accidents and confrontations which will not be tolerated.
  5. Be respectful to others in your behavior, words, and actions.
  6. Use school appropriate language at all times.
  7. Play all games in the manner that they are to be played.
  8. No Gum, Food, Candy or Soda allowed in the gym or locker rooms.  Water is permitted.
  9. LOCK YOUR BELONGS!  Neither Wesclin High School nor its staff is responsible for lost or stolen items.
  10. Practice good hygiene.  Take your uniform home weekly to wash and bring back.
  11. Stay in the Locker Room at the end of the class period until the teacher dismisses you from class.

 

Uniforms

  1. ORANGE WESCLN PE shirts and BLACK PE shorts for girls.  Put your name on it.
  2. GREY WESCLIN PE shirts and BLACK PE shorts for boys.  Put your name on it.
  3. Shirts must have seam still attached with no other rips or tears
  4. Shorts must have 6-inch inseam, no writing on the back of the shorts, sweatpants may be worn.
  5. Classes may be held outdoors in the fall and spring, so be prepared daily with a light jacket, sweatshirt, or sweatpants.
  6. Tennis shoes with socks are required.  (no sandals/slip-ons/crocs/boots) 

 

Students may borrow a clean PE uniform from the coach’s office if theirs has been forgotten.  It must be returned by the end of the hour otherwise detention will be issued immediately.

                1st offense: Free

                2nd offense: $1.00 for uniform or point deduction for each item borrowed

                3rd offense: $1.00 for uniform or point deduction for each item borrowed and detention issued

                4th offense: $1.00 for uniform or 2 point deduction for each item borrowed and detention issued

                5th offense and beyond: referral to the office for excessive and insubordination

 

If a student fails to dress for class or does not have tennis shoes, the following procedure will be used for each quarter grading period:

                1st offense – detention and student must walk for 30 minutes; daily grade of a C

                2nd offense – detention and student must walk for 30 minutes; daily grade of a Zero

                3rd offense and beyond – detention and student must walk for 30 minutes; daily grade of a zero and parents will be notified.

 

Medicals/Injuries

  1. Report all injuries to your instructor immediately. 
  2. A STUDENT IS EXCUSED FROM PE ONLY if a note from a parent/guardian is brought to the teacher prior to the class beginning.  The note must have the date, reason for not participating, parent/guardian’s signature and phone number where the parent can be reached.  A note will be honored for (1) ONE day only.  Even with a note, the student will still be required to dress and may be required to walk for 30 minutes or complete a written assignment for the day. 
  3. A doctor’s note will be required after two days of parent excuses.  If a doctor’s note is not received, the student will be required to participate.
  4. Students with a medical release from PE will be required to complete assigned written work to take the place of the activity to earn their physical education grade.  Assignment can be daily, weekly or the duration of the injury. 

 

Discipline Code

  1. Possible Verbal Warning
  2. Detention or removal out of class at teacher discretion.

 

Grading (same as handbook) (Semester& final exams will be given)

  1. Based on dress record, participation, punctuality, performance, attitude, and cooperation.
  2. Students will have opportunity to earn 5 participations points daily.  Points will be deducted for the following reasons but not limited to:
  1. -1 point for Tardy
  2. -5 points for being kicked out of class for any reason
  3. -5 points for any unexcused absence
  4. Teacher Discretion: Lack of Participation, Poor behavior, poor attitude, etc.

3.   A PE related project will be required in order to maintain grade during medical releases.

4.  A PE Make-UP assignment maybe required to make up absences

5.  A PE related assignment will be required for those students who miss class due to In School

     Suspension

Lockers

  1. Each of you will be assigned a locker and will need to bring a lock or purchase one from his/her teacher.
  2. It is your responsibility to know the combination.
  3. Do not share lockers or combinations!!! We will not open the lock except for the owner of the locker.
  4. All belonging including valuables must be locked in a locker during class. Leaving valuables around is

        only inviting theft. The physical education staff will not be responsible for lost or stolen articles.

Class Procedure

  1. Attendance (be in assigned row)
  2. Dress ( 4 minutes) – STAY IN LOCKER ROOM UNTIL TEACHER RELEASES YOU TO THE GYM FOR ACTIVITY
  3. Run/Jog
  4. Stretch/Calisthenics
  5. Lift Weights/Activity of the day
  6. Dress as a group – STAY IN THE LOCKER ROOM
  7. Dismissal (please no standing in the doorway and do not leave the locker room before the bell rings.)
