Update – April 1, 2020

Wesclin Unit School District #3:

I want to continue to thank you for your cooperation and understanding during these uncertain times.  I understand that this is an extremely difficult time for all of us and no one signed up for this.  I know parents didn't anticipate being co-teachers and school buildings are not supposed to be closed!!!  But that is the situation we are in today and we all must work together.

I want you to know that I appreciate the parents, the students and the faculty and staff for everything that we are doing together to keep our students active and engaged.

Yesterday afternoon, the governor issued a stay at home order for the State of Illinois through the end of April and school buildings to remain closed through the end of April.

  • School Calendar

    • The school buildings are closed through April 30 but learning will still continue to happen.  Remote learning will continue through April 30.

      • Tuesday, March 31 – Wednesday, April 8 – Remote learning activities that have been provided by your teacher(s)

      • Thursday, April 9 – Monday, April 13 – Spring Break – There will be no assigned lessons during this time. You can catch up on missed assignments, read a good book or try to relax.

      • Tuesday, April 14 – Remote planning day – There will be no assigned lessons on this day.  We will use this day to plan and disseminate additional activities, which may include additional packets of information.

      • Wednesday, April 15 – Thursday, April 30 – Remote learning activities that have been provided by your teacher(s).

  • Remote Learning Plan

    • The remote learning plan has been provided with this letter.  It will answer many of your questions as it contains grade level specific information regarding content, activities, grading as well as resources that are available.

  • Free Breakfast and Lunch

    • Free Breakfast and Lunch will continue during spring break.  We will continue to provide meals Monday-Friday with no break in service.

    • We are adding additional menu options to our breakfast and lunch meals.  All items will already have been cooked so they can either be eaten cold at pick up or taken home and heated up.

    • Breakfast and Lunch will continue and not violate the stay at home order.  Just remember ALL students are eligible to receive a free breakfast and lunch.  Pick up is from 8:00-12:00 daily at Trenton Elementary and New Baden Elementary.

    • Anyone and everyone can have a breakfast and lunch.

  • Events/Activities

    • All activities that were scheduled during the month of April have been postponed or canceled.  We are committed to making up as many events as possible once we are permitted to have large group gatherings again.  I promise I will let you know the dates once we can begin rescheduling activities/events.

  • Assessments

    • The US Constitution and Illinois Constitution test requirements for passing 8th grade and high school graduation have been waived.

    • All state assessments have been canceled.

      • The state will reschedule the SAT for this junior class for the fall of next school year.  The purpose is to provide the students a free college entrance exam and NOT school accountability.

  • Questions

    • If you have specific classroom, curriculum or grading questions please contact your child’s teacher.  They are checking their email daily and will answer all of your questions. (Grades 3-12 – Make sure you are checking your child’s google classroom account as much information is shared there.  Your child can also email the teacher.)

I continue to be available.  My email address is filyawj@wesclin.org and my cell phone 618.830.0990. No question is too small.  Do not hesitate to contact me at any time.
