Officer Travous visits Wesclin

By: Kailey Mueller

Clinton County police officer, Dan Travous, visited Wesclin sociology classes on Wednesday, March 6th. Sociology students are currently studying deviance and crime. Officer Travous talked about crime and deviance within our community. In his presentation, he covered the different types of crime including: blue-collar, white-collar, state crimes, and federal crimes. Officer Travous also explained how most crime in our area revolves around drugs, and the problem is only getting worse. He explained it as “a constant fight.” Students learned about the process of someone being put into jail. Officer Travous brought prison clothes, toiletries, and the bed mattress inmates use. Mrs. O’Rear, Wesclin Sociology teacher, said, “I think it was very beneficial for my students to hear about crime and deviance in our communities from someone who sees it first-hand.”
