Scholastic Book Fair:

Wesclin Middle School will host the Scholastic Book Fair the week of November 17-21. Students will be able to shop before school from 7:45-8:00 and during their recess time.  Purchases may be made with cash, check (made payable to Wesclin), credit card, and eWallet.  To set up an eWallet account and to purchase books online, go to https://www.scholastic.com/bf/wesclinmiddleschool.  Please remember that all sales will have a 6.25% sales tax added on.  All proceeds will be used to purchase new books and other supplies for the library.

Disguise a Turkey Contest:

HELP! The turkeys have escaped the farm from down the road, and they’ve chosen our school to hide out in! We don’t want the farmer to find them, so the students in 4th and 5th grade have been asked (by the turkeys) to help hide in our school by giving them an awesome disguise.

The task is for your child to disguise his/her turkey (e.g. Superhero, Disney Princess, Community Helper, Cowboy. etc) Use your imagination and creativity when designing the turkey’s disguise. Your turkeys are due back to Mrs. Dorri on Thursday November 20th (or earlier if you wish!)

Your child’s turkey will be displayed in the hallway for the staff to judge. The top 3 turkeys will win a prize. Feel free to contact StuCo if you have any questions or concerns at stempeld@wesclin.org. Please have your child use the attached turkey. Thank you so much for your support and we cannot
wait to see all the amazing turkeys your children bring back to school. Your child will be able to bring them back home to display at Thanksgiving.

Thank a Farmer:

The St. Louis Dairy Council wants to remind everyone to be thankful for the farmers who help put food on our tables. You can take part by entering the“Thank A Farmer” contest! Submit a letter, photo, or short video thanking our Adopt-A-Calf farmer, Farmer Henrichs from St. Rose, IL. Email your entry to info@stldairycouncil.org by November 26th for a chance to win a dairy cool prize pack! Have fun, and they can’t wait to see your entries!

Popcorn Fridays:

Popcorn Fridays are back!

On select Fridays throughout the school year, we ask volunteers (usually 2 parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc) to take time out of their day to pop popcorn and sell it to the 4th and 5th grade students during their lunch recess. Money raised from popcorn sales goes towards quarter rewards, end of the year rewards, extra supplies for the classrooms, and any other extras that are needed throughout the year. Popcorn is $1.00 per bag. The students look forward to it and enjoy seeing people they know helping at the school. Below is the link to sign-up to be a volunteer. If you are popping popcorn, please arrive around 10:30 to make sure you have plenty of time to pop prior to the first wave of students coming at lunch. You can expect to be done around 12:45.

Without volunteers, special treats like this cannot take place. We appreciate the help!

Warriors Wipe Out Hunger:

Beginning next week, Wesclin School District will launch a Food and Essential Household Goods Drive to support our students and families in need. Approximately 30% of Wesclin students receive SNAP benefits and/or free and reduced lunch benefits, and we want to ensure that no family in our community goes without food or essentials during this time.

Through Warriors Wipe Out Hunger, all donated items will be distributed directly to Wesclin students and families. Together, as a community, we can make a difference and take care of one another.

Donation Suggestions:

  • Non-Perishable Food Items: Canned goods (vegetables, soups, canned meats), boxed dinners, pasts, rice, peanut butter, breakfast items.

  • Household Essentials: Toilet paper, soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, and hygiene products.

Each school will lead its own initiative, but all donations will come together for districtwide distribution. You may donate to any Wesclin school location.

  • Drive Dates: Begins early next week and concludes November 21

  • Donation Sites: Any Wesclin school

  • Goal: Ensure every Warrior family is supported

More details will be shared next week from each individual school.

Wesclin School District appreciates your support as Warriors Wipe Out Hunger!!!!!

Turkey Week:

Honor Society will be sponsoring a food drive called Turkey Week the week of November 17-21. Every item/money donated is worth a certain value of points. We will donate the items collected and money to families in the district. See the flyer for information on the Turkey Week food drive.

Playground Equipment Donation:

As we start to hit our stride for the school year, it has been noted that some of the most popular sports equipment enjoyed at recess has seen better days! The WMS Support Committee is happy to support this cause, but before buying brand new we wanted to consider gently used donations. So, if you are looking to declutter and have any of the following lying around looking for a new home, please send in your sports equipment donations to the WMS office.
