Why would you ever want to teach math? This is probably the second most popular question I receive as a math teacher! I am sure you can guess the most common question I hear. I have always enjoyed the challenge of solving a math problem. While in junior high and high school I often found myself helping out friends with their math homework and I also enjoyed the challenge of trying to help them understand it the way I did. It seemed to make sense to continue in this path in college. I was able to graduate from SIUE with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science in August of 1993. I student taught at Highland High School in the fall of 1993 which then allowed me to earn my teaching certification in December of 1993. I was lucky enough to be hired to teach full-time at Highland High School from August 1994 to May 1998. During my tenure there I taught Algebra I, Sequential Algebra, Algebra II, and Honors Precalculus and Trigonometry. After a three year break from teaching, which allowed me time to travel with my husband and be blessed with my first child, I was hired by Wesclin in 2001 to teach 8th grade math. I taught in the middle school for nine years before moving back into high school teaching when Lanis Lenker retired in 2010. While teaching, I have aquired a Master's Degree in Instructional Design and Learning Technologies from SIUE and have also taken many additional graduate level education and math classes and allowing me to teach the Dual Credit math classes at Wesclin. PLEASE feel free to contact me if you ever have questions about how your child is doing in math class!
