District Information

Information about the District

Wesclin Community Unit School District #3 was formed as a new school district on July 1, 1957.  The District is basically rural, with the majority of the district (Trenton Elementary, Wesclin Middle School, Wesclin High School) in the Sugar Creek Township and part of the district (New Baden Elementary) is in Lookingglass Township.  It is composed of 55 square miles and contains three small towns within this area.  New Baden and Trenton are towns of about 2500 population.  New Memphis has a population of a few hundred people.

Wesclin High School was first utilized in August, 2014. Wesclin Middle School facility was first utilized in August, 1971. New Baden Elementary school was first utilized in August, 1980 and Trenton Elementary School was first utilized in 1958.

All three communities represented by the District are residential towns and are proud of their fine homes, well kept lawns and streets. Geographically, the District is located in a position to share the cultural and entertainment programs of the metropolitan St. Louis area while retaining the many advantages of a small community.  There are many colleges and universities within easy driving distance.  Excellent medical care is easily obtained by District residents.  The District is an excellent place to live, as serious crime is virtually non-existent.  There are many fine churches within the District.  Recreationally, there are two community swimming pools, two bowling alleys, numerous ball diamonds, tennis courts and soccer fields.  For the boating, camping and fishing enthusiast, Carlyle Lake is a few minutes away.  Good housing is readily available.  The District is located on the west side of Clinton County and is thirty miles east of St. Louis.

The District owns and operates 18 school buses.

 

Cafeteria Programs:

Kitchen and eating facilities are located in all schools.  Each school operates a closed campus during the lunch hours. 

 

 

Curriculum:

The District has a reputation for excellence in academic achievement, teaching staff and extra-curricular activities.  On the average, about two thirds of the District's graduates attend college.  The District belongs to the Belleville Area Special Schools Cooperative (BASSC) and serves most of the special needs students in-district.

Facilities:

The District has four attendance centers; K-3rd grade (New Baden Elementary) in New Baden, PreK -€“ 3rd Grade (Trenton Elementary) in Trenton, 4th - 8th Grade (Wesclin Middle School) located between New Baden and Trenton on Route 160, and 9th - 12th Grade, (Wesclin High School) located between New Baden and Trenton right off Route 160 on Wesclin Road.
