HIGH SCHOOL ONLY CORONAVIRUS UPDATE - MARCH 17

March 17, 2020

Update – March 17, 2020

Wesclin High School Families:

Thank you for your cooperation during this time.  I know this is not how you imagined spending your high school years or how you would create high school memories.  There are a few questions that are high school specific that I want to answer for you.

  • Prom
    • Prom is scheduled for Saturday, April 25.  We were notified on Friday that the Four Points Sheraton is canceling our reservation.  As of today, I am not sure when or where we will have prom.  But we will make every effort to reschedule prom.  We understand the importance of Prom for our students, especially our seniors.

  • Graduation
    • The graduation ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, May 17 at 2pm.  At this time, we are not changing the date.  However, if it becomes necessary we will postpone the ceremony, we will NOT cancel it.  We WILL have it!
      • Although the ceremony may need to be postponed your child’s graduation date is the last day of school.  This may be important for students who are joining the military or beginning college in the summer.

  • High School Transcripts
    • If students need transcripts sent to colleges, they need to email Katrina Hanke at hankek@wesclin.org with the name of the college for the transcript to be sent.  If you are needing transcripts for scholarships, Mrs. Hanke will email those directly to the student.

  • Scholarships
    • The deadlines for local scholarships and the Alumni Scholarship will be moved to April 1.  Please look closely at all other scholarship applications for information as to where the application should be mailed and the due date.

  • Letter of Recommendation
    • If students are needing a Letter of Recommendation, email Mrs. Hanke at hankek@wesclin.org regarding where the letter needs to be sent as well as to whom the letter should be addressed.  You may also email teachers should you need a letter of recommendation.

  • Online Counseling
    • Mrs. Hanke will be offering counseling services online to students for emotional and academic support.  Students need to email Mrs. Hanke at hankek@wesclin.org to set up a time for the counseling sessuib.  A Zoom meeting (a safe video conference website) will be used to hold the session. Once a time is determined for counseling, Mrs. Hanke will send a link to the student to connect.

  • Dual Credit Classes
    • Students completing dual credit classes MUST complete assignments in order to obtain college credit for Kaskaskia College.

  • Continuity of Education Plans
    • Each teacher provided students with Continuity of Education plans.  These are activities to support their learning.  These assignments will not negatively impact their grades if they are not completed.  But I do anticipate teachers providing extra credit and/or rewards if they are completed.

  • Free Internet/Chromebook Assistance
    • Charter will offer free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi access for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who do not already have a Spectrum broadband subscription and at any service level up to 100 Mbps. To enroll call 1-844-488-8395. Installation fees will be waived for new student household.

    • Wesclin School District will provide chromebooks that can be borrowed during this closure.  Please contact me and we can coordinate a pick up or I will deliver it to your house.

I will be working every day.  I am here to assist you in any way that I can.  My email address is filyawj@wesclin.org and my cell phone 618.830.0990. No question is too small.  Do not hesitate to contact me during this period of time.

Sincerely,

Jennifer C. Filyaw
