WHS Seniors of the Month

September 19, 2017

Last year, Deien Chevrolet started sponsoring three seniors of the month in the categories of athletics, organizations, and academics. Each month teachers are to recommend a senior in any of the categories and explain why they have been nominated. The faculty then votes based on the nominations.  The winners receive 50 dollars as well as lunch with Principal, John Isenhower.

September’s recipients are Reiss Wegman, Brooklyn Goings, and Julia Friederich. Reiss Wegman, who was voted for athletics, is the Cross Country team captain and also involved in track. In addition, Reiss is involved in Student Council, NHS, and Mighty Mentors. Reiss was also voted Mr. Wesclin last year. Reiss plans to major in communications and continue his running in college, hopefully out of state. “Reiss is a model student in school and a fierce competitor in athletics representing his community here at Wesclin,” said cross country coach Tyler Weis. Brooklyn Goings was voted for organizations. Brooklyn is a member of Student Council, captain of the cheerleading squad, and involved in Art Club. She is also one of this year’s Homecoming Queen candidates. She plans to major in microbiology and find a career as a pharmaceutical sales representative. “As a representative of Student Council, Brooklyn is reliable, trustworthy and has a positive and friendly disposition. I appreciate her dedication and her willingness to always help out,” said Kellie Kunz, the Student Council sponsor. Julia Friederich was chosen for academics, Julia is involved the volleyball team, softball team, NHS, Math Team, Peers, and Gourmet Club. She has also been to several All-Tournament volleyball teams, nominated for one of this year’s Homecoming Queen candidates, and received the IHSA Scholastic Award. Julia plans to attend school to major in engineering. Guidance Counselor, Sherry Fisher said, “Julia is a model student. She not only has worked hard to rank at the top of her class, but she is also a good athlete and an overall outstanding person.”
